Martin & Katharine Struempler Anniversary
Fifty years of marriage was celebrated by Mr. and mrs. Martin Struempler, well known residents of
the Amherst community for many years, on Saturday and Sunday January 14 and 15.
On Saturday evening, they were guests of honor at a family dinner at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ellis in Holyoke. Also assisting with preparing and serving the meal were
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Struempler, El Paso, Texas, and Mrs William Ellis of Phenix, Ariz.
Mrs. Francis Ellis, Ethel, and Mrs Willard Ellis, Gladys, and Elmer Struempler are the Martin Struemplers
children. Also present at the dinner were a number of other relatives.
At noon Sunday, another dinner for the Struemplers, their children, and other relatives was served
in the parlor of St. Paul Lutheran church in Amherst by members of the Ladies Aid of the church.
The program consisted of group singing of "Wedding Hymn", which was sung at the Struemplers wedding
50 years earlier and "The Golden Wedding Prayer" with Mrs. Lyle Prussman at the piano; a sermonette
by the Rev. Theodore Schauland; "The Lord's Prayer", sung by Mrs. Irwin Holtzen, a niece of the honored
couple; and a reading, "The Worn Wedding Ring", by Elmer Struempler.

The Struemplers' children were hosts at open house at the church Sunday afternoon, having made
all arrangements for the event and greeting guests as they arrived. Mrs. Inwin Holtzen, Hastings
Nebraska, was in charge of the guest book; Mrs. Lowel E. Hagemann, Mrs Dewey Lindgren, both of Halyoke,
and Mrs. Lyle Prussman, Otis, were at the serving table; and Mrs. Harold Sagehorn of Holyoke presided
at the card and gift table.

Mrs. Walter Werner of Hebron, Nebr., and Mrs. Sophie Schuitz, Lincoln, Nebr., who were members
of the wedding party 50 years ago, were here for the occasion.
Martin Struemopler and Katharine Sagehorn were married at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, Nebr.,
on January 14, 1917, and lived near Deshler until the spring of 1919. At that time they moved
to a farm in the Amherst community, residing in that area until December, 1961 when they
moved to their present home in Amherst.

Although their three children attended the anniversary celebration, only one of the Struemplers'
grandchildren, Dale Ellis, Laramie, Wyo. could be present.
Other relatives attending were: Mrs. Sophie Schultz, Lincoln, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Werner
