Hilda Dora Sarah Malchow Obituary
Hilda Dora Sarah Malchow, youngest daughter of Herman and Clara Nee Thieme Strumpler was
born August 4, 1907 in Hebron, Nebraska, She entered her eternal home on August 21, 1994 in
Hebron at the age of 87 years and 17 days.
Hilda was baptized into her Christian Faith by Rev. Scnabacker August 25, 1907 at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Friedensau, Nebraska. She reaffirmed her baptismal vows through the rite of confirmation on
April 24, 1921 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron.
On October 5, 1926, in the home of her parents, Rev Heuer united her in marriage to Emil Malchow of
Beemer, Nebraska. To this union five children were born. With open arms and hearts Hilda and Emil also
welcomed into their home the three orphaned children of her sister, Emma Bartels.
Other than a short time in Idaho, Hilda lived her entire life in the Hebron community. She retired from the
Thayer Community Memorial Hospital after 35 years of service. She continued to be home health care
until she was 83. Hilda was an active worker in her church by being a Sunday School Teacher for 30
years, holding various offices in both the Ladies' Aid and Women's Missionary Societies and chairman of
the altar guild for many years.
Hilda found great contentment and relaxation in working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also
enjoyed crocheting beautiful articles for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Herman, Martin, Clarence, Arnold and Erwin,
four sisters, Amelia Werner, Hannah Wuebenhorst, Matilda Thurnau and Emma Bartels; her husband,
Emil; three sons, Marlowe (in infancy), Dennis and Donald Bartels, and one daughter, Betty Bartels
Holtzen.
She leaves to miss her loving smile and gentle touch her daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Lois Bartels) Kleen of
Richmond, Indiana, Mrs. Gary (Clarice) Groeling of Littleton, Colorado, Arlyce of Omaha, and Mrs.
LeRoy (LaVoris) Fisher of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son-in-law, Irvin Holtzen of Mesa Arizona;
daughter-in-law, Ruth Bartels of Freeland, Washington, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and
sister-in-law, Berniece Strumpler of Winter Park, Florida.
