Herman H. Strumpler Obituary
- Herman H. Strumpler, son of Christian Strumpler and Sophie Summann, was born his baptismal vow through confirmation.
- When Herman was 15 years old, he left his homeland to seek his fortune in the new world. He first worked as a farm hand in Illinois. When he was a young man ready to begin farming for himself, he came to Hampton, Nebraska, where acquaintances had urged him to come. Here he met his life's partner with whom he was permitted to complete nearly 59 years of wedded life. He was married to Clara Thieme on May 18, 1893. To this union was blessed with 10 children, Two sons died in infancy, a daughter Emma, Mrs, Rudolph Bartels, passed away in 1928; and another daughter Mathilda, Mrs, Adolph Thurnau, died in 1935.
- In 1906 the Strumpler family moved to their farm 5 miles northwest of here. For 43 years the departed lived here enjoying the fruits of his honest and noble calling, and experiencing happy special blessings. His long active life and constant good health was interrupted only twice due to severe injuries sustained from unmanageable livestock.
- In 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Strumpler left the farm and lived in retirement for two years, making their home with several of their children; and since 1951 the departed lived in our Blue Valley Lutheran Home.
- With the infirmities of old age came also illness. During a serious illness he spent from November 19 to December 17 in our Memorial Hospital, he recovered sufficiently so that upon his return he was able to leave his bed again for a short time. On January 26 his final illness set in. After one week of little suffering, a period in which his spiritual and physical needs were well supplied, and which he used in preparation for a victorious end, he consciously and quietly fell asleep early Saturday morning. The dawning day ushered in his Eternal Day. He attained the age of 82 years 8 months and 18 days. The immediate reason of his death was a virus infection.
- His close relatives that remain are: his wife, Clara of Hebron; the following six children; Amelia, Mrs. Walter Werner of Hebron; Martin of Amherst, Colorado; Hanna. Mrs. Herman Wuebbenhorst of Buhl, Idaho; Herman of St. Louis, Missouri; Hilda, Mrs. Emil Malchow of Hebron; and Erwin of Lincoln Nebraska; 27 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
